Since forming in 2005, Coffey Architects have been named winners in the AJ Corus 40 under 40 Award, awarded by the leading industry magazine, The Architects Journal. Our work was exhibited at the V&A Museum, central London and has featured widely in the architectural, local and national press.

The practice has won a number of awards for its residential work including Best Renovation 2008 awarded by the Daily Telegraph and also shortlisted for best redesign 2009 at the prestigious Grand Designs Awards.

The practice has a wide client base designing and procuring private domestic,
commercial, public and urban designs both in the UK and abroad.

Coffey Architects Ltd. was set up by director Phil Coffey in 2005 in order to pursue his passion for place, architecture and design.

Prior to setting up his own practice, Phil Coffey worked with the world renowned practice Ian Ritchie Architects. He worked for seven years on arts projects, helping to design and deliver the Plymouth Theatre Royal production centre and the Spire of Dublin, both shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize in 2003/2004 respectively. He also worked with the respected practice Avery Associates on the award winning IMAX cinema, Waterloo, London.

Phil Coffey has been a part time tutor to degree and diploma students at the Welsh School of Architecture since 2005, he has also been an invited critic at the Bartlett School of Architecture, London. Phil Coffey is a regular speaker at Grand Designs Live to talk about his influences, inspiration and work.

TR2 / 2004 Shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize 03

The intention of the New Production Centre is to create a Centre of Excellence to maintain outstanding home productions for the Plymouth Theatre Royal. Occupying a prominent waterfront site, the rehearsal spaces sit like driftwood on the rock beach, clad in phosphor bronze woven wire mesh which is soft to the touch. The Spire of Dublin / 2005 Shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize 04

The 120m tall stainless steel spire rises from O'Connell Street from a logarithmic spiral cast in bronze. At the apex of the spire an LED aviation warning light reaches 2000 candela to warn approaching aircraft. Courtesy and Copyright Ian Ritchie Architects.
