Flow / China

The flow of buildings and people around them is crucial to open free space that creates a sense of place and community. Flow is a project centred on the movement and spatial qualities of the circle and the resultant circulation patterns.

The five star hotel, residential towers and the individual homes all enjoy their own round towers of different scales and functions, anchoring the individual buildings to the setting and creating a consistency between phases that will create an immediately identifiable place to live. The largest round tower accommodates the hotel rooms in the largest/tallest building on the site seen easily from the main road to the west and offering excellent views in all directions for guests. The hollow configuration of this round tower offers a grand central atrium as a spectacular sight for those entering the lobby at ground level, creating a sense of arrival, generosity and splendour.

The materiality of Flow seeks to reinforce the liquid/free form nature of the circular form. The curved glazed balustrades to the towers allows for balconies to all floors and creates beautiful reflections of the landscape at ground floor and the sky and other towers at the upper levels.
