A thoughtful new-build headquarters for Nexus Infrastructure that sits within a 200,000sqft green landscaped site

FOR NEXUS INFRASTRUCTURE

This 44,000sqft new-build headquarters effortlessly combines three subsidiary companies under one roof. The building provides flexible work, cycling facilities and meeting/ social spaces for over 300 staff.

Generosity was central to the designs of Nexus HQ – from the large, landscaped plot, to the welcoming approach, the inviting courtyards and considerate floorplan. Inside, the working areas of the three-storey building arrange around the central stair. Outside, staff enjoy the sun or the shade at different times of year. Two outdoor courtyards are created diagonally from one another on the north and south sides of the building.

COURTYARDS & CLEAR ENTRY

Nexus is not only just a building but a considered landscape, an oasis between the roads, a wild meadow of biodiversity within which an efficient building sits and welcomes the landscape.

The robust diagram creates a central entrance and stair with indoor amenity spaces adjacent to two courtyards, one to the rear to the north and one to the front to the south. The courtyards, generous stair and central kichen areas on each floor are enjoyed communally by the different businesses operating within.

RECEPTION, BREAKOUT SPACE AND STAIR

The reception area is fully glazed to enjoy views in and out and aid legibility for the users of the building.

A CRISP, PUNCHED ELEVATION

The façade of Nexus is composed of lightweight mineral composite panels which create simplicity and reflect and balance against the surrounding landscape. Deep reveals add weight to the architecture and the simple diagram creates striking shadows to both courtyards at different times of day to further model the building in its setting.

SPACIOUS, LIGHT-FILLED INTERIORS

The entrance canopy is designed to signal entrance but to also offer moments of joy. A filigree roof creates intriguing shadows within the entrance area breaking down the barrier between inside and out.
