Ribbon House / London

The ribbon is threaded through the house. Weaving inside and outside, the ribbon defines the new entrance sequence of the house, and links the new series of living and garden spaces that make up the proposed extension. The original house is a Victorian villa standing at the end of a long terrace. Access to the house is reorganised to match that of the terrace, which enables the side garden to become a private space for the family to enjoy. A new staircase connects the previously isolated attic rooms to the rest of the house and floods the centre of the house with light.

The ground floor extension opens out of the existing house, and folds up to carve views towards the densely wooded slope to the rear of the house. The new kitchen and living spaces are connected to the garden spaces to each side by the folding of the ribbon as it journeys along the site.
