Scala / Bangladesh
A sustainable 13 storey commercial building on a corner site in one of Dhaka's fastest developing areas.
In most multi storey buildings the fire access is hidden away but Scala is exploring how the fire access can be exposed as an external, vertical promenade in the facade offering the users alternative outdoor access to the different storeys which activates the facade. The stairs form small pockets in the facade for plants which contributes to the urban space and enhances the quality of life for users in the building as well as the pedestrians on the street level.
The double glazed system exists of an external layer of diagonal aluminium louvers that follow the pattern of the stairs. This louvered system maintains the views out of the building while it offers a comfortable indoor climate.
