Skye Eye / Sheffield

A large scale urban development of one, two and three bedroom units located on a prominent hill overlooking the city of Sheffield. The housing is grouped into individual 'enclaves' that are linked by a home zone configuration. Between each set of terraces a slight change in level and direction to the road bridges over 'green' canals that penetrate to the existing housing behind. A linear park from the city connects the existing estate on a route to some of the medieval destinations of Sheffield. Bike routes and walking routes link sustainable micro generation sites for the proposed development including wind turbines, photovoltaic gardens and biomass plantations. A new kind of landscape.

The Skye Eye is a restaurant / shop / exhibition destination which is prominent on the skyline both during the day and at night. The location therefore becomes a destination in its own right, a place where visitors can understand the growth of Sheffield below, its historical context and the proposals for future development.
